Our land had been ignored for more than a decade before we bought it. We have spent five years studying our land with environmental and cultural experts, carefully planning, and beginning the clean up and stewardship process. Please understand that until our Conservation District Use Application (CDUA OA-3818) is approved by the Board of Land and Natural Resources, we may not start many of the conservation and forest stewardship actions that are greatly needed to properly care for our land. We have been able to make some progress in these areas
Trash Removal
We have removed literally tons of trash dumped over Kailua Bluffs back walls onto our property. Mahalo to the many neighbors who cooperated in this effort to restore several acres of land to stewardship in line with conservation rules.
Encroachment Resolution
We have completed the removal or documentation and resolution of over 24 significant encroachment situations including hot tubs, golf tees from which golf balls were being whacked into the conservation land, chicken coops, storage units, play structures, walls, lanais, alterations to the drainage ditches, swales, and flowage areas, irrigation systems and more all built neighbors without permits or permission during prior owner’s tenure.
Erosion and Silt Control
We have initiated select Best Management Practices (BMP’s) in accord with our approved Conservation Plan and National Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) standards to mitigate storm water runoff erosion and silt migration, including installation and maintenance of EPA Approved FILTREXX Silt Soxx, and Vetiver Grass vegetative barriers.
Invasive Species Management
We monitor the invasive feral pig population and the ecological damage they cause. We thank the Oahu Pig Hunters Association for their assistance with the periodic humane trapping and live removal of feral pigs from our land. We have also removed invasive Albizia and hazardous dead trees where necessary.
Vandalism, Trespassing, and Harassment
For your safety and the conservation management of the flora, fauna, and land please refrain from clearing brush, trespassing, or entering our private property without our express written permission. Unfortunately, a few people have engaged in a campaign of vandalism and harassment against us in retaliation for the lawful removal of their or their friend’s illegal encroachments or the termination of their abuse of our private property and violation of the conservation rules and laws. Please let us know right away or call the police if you observe suspicious activity on our property. We reserve the right to notify law enforcement officers and to prosecute individuals illegally entering our land or engaging in unlawful activities on our private property.
